Course Update

At last some great golfing weather to be enjoyed by all.  The course is holding up well considering the lack of rainfall this month.  The fairways are browning off nicely now, creating a great summer golf feel, with some uncertain bounces along the way.  I believe due to this some of the longer rough areas are now coming into play now from a wayward shot.  These areas will be flailed in due course, but not before the club championship I'm afraid, as this flail attachment is currently waiting maintenance to be carried out on it and was not expecting to use it again until the end of September when we start the long job of cutting all these areas on the course.  The areas in question are not suitable ground conditions for our regular back wing mower to go into without serious damage, but I have now ordered the bits needed for the flail mower and will get onto these areas as soon as I can.  The greens are holding up really well during this extreme weather situation.  I have increased the wetting agent applications and daily hand watering of the greens, collars and first cut of the semi-rough around the greens will continue as necessary.  The irrigation system is working flat out watering greens and tees nightly, including the Bishops course.   We are currently loosing through evapotranspiration around 28mm of moisture per week due to the high temperatures.  Due to the high water volumes to keep the greens healthy, the pace is slightly down at the moment, but the greens are consistent and true across the course, but the softer conditions are at least giving  members the confidence of stopping a ball on them.......  We are verti-cutting as often as we dare to improve green speeds, but as you can appreciate my reluctance in lowering the height of cut to achieve more speed.  The bunkers have been topped up with sand in the low areas and the 14th GUR bunker will have sand added for the championship weekend, but a remodel of this bunker is to be carried out in the near future.

Many thanks
